I thought I’d share some background on the cover design, more details on how to order, and remind you about the giveaway.
Judging My Book By Its Cover
There are hundreds of thousands of historical romance books out there, so I knew it was important to get a great cover for The Ideal Countess.
I’m lucky enough to work with a fantastic designer in my day job, so I went straight to her for help.
First, I created a Pinterest board of covers and costumes from the era for inspiration.
Next, we went together to The Strand Bookstore to examine covers of other romance novels. Some of the details we noticed:
We liked it when the cover image repeated on the spine, since sometimes all you see is the spine of the book
In Regency Romance, the heroine is always depicted in a fabulous dress
The hero is usually in varying states of undress. We’re guessing the three stages hint at how “spicy” the novel is: full shirt on, showing one nipple, or showing two nipples!
Finally, we found a site called Period Images that provides stock footage of models in historical costumes for romance covers. (They also offer videos...maybe for my next book I’ll do a trailer!)
From there, my designer had enough inspiration to get started. Didn’t she do an amazing job?
