As I mentioned in my most recent Sipping Tea with Katherine video, I keep an eye on what my fellow romance authors are writing to help me stay sharp.
One of the ways I do so is monitoring what algorithms recommend to potential readers. This is usually based on what other shoppers have purchased along with my book, so it’s a great opportunity to find out what my readers enjoy.
I also run ads on Amazon based on specific author names and titles, so I have data from those ad campaigns to see which authors compel readers to buy my book.
With all that, I thought my readers might be interested in authors similar to me, in case you are jonesing for another historical romance!
Amalie Howard
Amalie Howard’s Beast of Beswick is a runaway success with my readers. She also has two historical romance series: the Lords of Essex and the Tartans and Titans, a Scottish Highlander series.
Darcy Burke
Darcy Burke writes both historical and contemporary romance, but my readers are most interested in the Secrets and Scandals series and the Spitfire Society.
Rebecca Connolly
Rebecca Connolly specializes in top-notch clean historical romances. (Clean romances don’t get as steamy - you can read it knowing your sensibilities won’t be offended.) Check out the Arrangement Series and the Spinster Chronicles to get started.
Jess Michaels
Jess Michaels describes her writing as “sexy and emotional historical romance.” She’s written over 80 titles, so you may want to start with my readers’ favorite series, The Shelley Sisters.
Scarlett Scott
Scarlett Scott’s novels focus on Regency and Victorian England “with strong, intelligent heroines and sexy alpha heroes.” Her Sins and Scoundrels series is a great place to start!
Samantha Holt
Samantha Holt is an English author writing about Regency London. Check out her Wallflower Brides or The Kidnap Club to get started.
Tess St. John
Tess St. John is a Texas girl writing about Regency England. Most popular among my readers: the Regency Redemption Series.
Christi Caldwell
Turn to Christi Caldwell for romances inspired by Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood. My readers have been gobbling up her series, The Brethren!
Emily EK Murdoch
Author Emily EK Murdoch writes Regency, Medieval, and Western historical romances, so you can fill yourself up on different periods and tropes! My readers particularly like Always the Chaperone.
Elizabeth Bright
To round out this list, Elizabeth Bright is a lawyer based out of Washington DC with a passion for Regency. Check out her Wicked Secrets series!
Looking at this list has certainly filled up my to-be-read pile. I hope you have a long list of books to read now! And if you haven’t read it yet, be sure to check out The Ideal Countess!
